What a crazy adventure we have been on !
It all started when I was woken up at 1:00am by some pretty steady contractions. Not sure if they were the real deal but realizing there were a few things that needed to happen ( arrange a sitter, tell j to hit the road home from Virginia beach, etc) before this little one decided to arrive, I called the on call doctor for advice. Considering I had never been early with my other 2 deliveries and the fact that it was 3.5 weeks before my due date, and that I was dilated to a 2 at yesterday's dr apt, she advised me that they probably weren't the real deal and to get a big drink of water and go back to bed. hmmm ok. Two hours later though, and really not wanting to have this baby at home, by myself! I called the Dr again who put in an order to the ER. Ahh!
What a crazy feeling it is to pack up, drive yourself to the hospital and walk into a completely empty ER waiting area at 3am.
So they took me right back, handed me a lovely gown and got me all connected to monitor the contractions and baby's heartbeat. J gratefully arrived soon after and then the on call Dr. Johnson came in to release me, saying the contractions weren't hard and steady enough and I wasn't progressing at all- False Alarm!
Oh Boy. Pretty sure I left feeling rather silly for causing all the drama. Oh well. So back home to try and get another hour of sleep. Well, that didn't last long because I was again awoken by steady contractions and really feeling like they were real, so J called the Dr again and told them to save us a big room because we were coming back! Yep! Only 2 hours later and there I was telling them to please not send me home to deliver this baby. :)
I'll spare you the dramatic details that comes with labor, but 8 hours later we were so happily surprised to meet our little one! When his head full of hair came out and then the rest of his body, the doctor looked to J to declare its gender. Overcome with emotion, he was finally able to get it out - It's a Boy!
We were so grateful Dr. Tate was there to deliver the little man! She was wonderful!
Not knowing the gender ahead of time, combined with an early arrival and how we roll, stud man did not have a name until the night before heading home.
Ellory and Grant were excited and very pleased to meet new baby brother.
protective Grant made sure Ellory was gentle with him.
Grant immediately asked to hold him and made sure the lion toy he had brought from home was always close by.
and then the room turned into a jungle gym for these monkeys are they were lovingly sent home :)
