For Halloween, we carved some pumpkins and made homemade donuts (a family tradition).

Crabtree Falls

Supposedly the tallest waterfalls east of the Mississippi, Crabtree falls was a great place to take a hike and see some of the beautiful scenery Virginia has to offer.

Introducing Maymont Park

Maymont is a great local park that used to belong to some wealthy Virginians. When they passed away, they gave all of their property to the city so everyone could enjoy it. The park has several animals (almost like a zoo), wide open spaces, classic horse buggies, and more! And it's all free!

The original house/mansion is still in tact and they offer tours to see the inside. There is also a Japanese garden section

Neptune Festival 2005

So we found out about this festival in Virginia Beach (about 2 hours from Richmond) called the Neptune Festival.

We decided to make the trip and took a back road so we could experience more of what Virginia had to offer. We saw cotton fields and drove through the Peanut Capitol of the World!

They have a parade, local vendors, surfing competitions, sailing, football, volleyball, fireworks, and our personal favorite, the sandcastle carving contest. People come from all over the world to show off their talent with sand. It's AMAZING! - the pictures don't do it justice.
